old-world monkey house

A lot of freedom for the monkeys

The old-world monkey house was built in 1997 and was the first free enclosure for monkeys in the Rostock Zoo. Our visitors can watch the animals without any disturbing barrier.  On the one site there are the patas monkeys (Husarenaffen) and on the other site you can see the extremely rare beard monkeys (Wanderus).
A further attraction of the old-world monkey house is Joe – he once was a drudge, but now he acts as biological lawnmower and gets along with the monkeys very well.
