Rostock Zoo

A warm welcome to the best zoo in Europe. Rostock Zoo is among Northern Germany's most popular holiday destinations. It's more than just the largest zoo on the German Baltic coast. With 120 years of history, it's also the oldest zoo in Northeast Germany. It is home to 4,500 animals of 450 species from all over the world, and to many unique and valuable plants.

Our zoo is repeatedly voted the best zoo in Europe in the category of zoos with up to a million guests each year. This is not only because of its spacious enclosures, built to resemble natural habitats, but also because of the varied education opportunities.

A destination for the whole family

The Rostock Zoo is one of the most popular attractions on the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In 2018 it was once again voted the best zoo in Europe in its category (up to 1 million visitors). Particularly high marks were given to the quality of the animal houses and enclosures, its green landscape and vegetation, the unique zoological and botanical ambience as well as the diverse educational opportunities. In addition, the zoo has been awarded the label "family-friendly facility" several times.

Young and old visitors alike have the opportunity to try out and enjoy themselves at our experience stations and in the playgrounds. Lots of event highlights, public show feedings and animal experiences round off the offer for the whole family. You can spend an eventful day at any time of the year in the largest zoo on the German Baltic Sea coast.

We look forward to your visit!
